Why UP TGT 2026 Matters
This is one of the biggest teacher recruitments in the country this year. With 16,193 posts in boys' schools and 1,542 in girls' schools, spread over 17 subjects, almost every graduate with a B.Ed and upper-primary TET has a subject to apply for. Selection is decided by a single written exam and document verification – there is no interview – so a well-planned eight weeks can make the difference.

Which Subject Has the Most Vacancies?
Four subjects account for more than half of all posts: Hindi, Science, English and Social Science. Mathematics is close behind. Smaller subjects such as Sewing, Instrumental Music and Ranjan Kala have very few seats, so competition per post there can be much sharper.
| Subject-wise Vacancy (Top to Bottom) |
| Subject | Posts | Subject | Posts |
| Hindi | 2,791 | Physical Education | 849 |
| English | 2,517 | Home Science | 798 |

| Ranjan Kala | 79 | Music (Instrumental) | 60 |
| Sewing (Silai) | 21 | Total | 17,735 |
Category-wise, the total is General 6,704, OBC 4,438, SC 3,698, EWS 2,882 and ST 13. The full boys/girls and category split for every subject is on the notice post.
Eligibility: The Three Things Every Candidate Needs
- Subject degree – Graduation with the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, or post-graduation with at least 45% marks.
- B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course (B.P.Ed / B.P.E. for Physical Education).
- TET for upper primary (Classes 6–8) conducted by the UP Government or Government of India. A valid certificate of the qualifying eligibility test must be held by 30 June 2027.
Some subjects have extra conditions. Hindi needs Sanskrit at Intermediate (or Uttar Madhyama). Social Science needs any two of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics in graduation. Science needs Physics and Chemistry; Biology needs Zoology and Botany. Music accepts Sangeet Visharad or Sangeet Prabhakar along with a degree. Check your subject line by line before paying the fee – one wrong subject choice cannot be corrected after final submission.
| Common Mistakes That Cancel Applications |
| Men cannot apply for girls' school posts (visually impaired candidates for Music are the only exception). Women can apply for boys' or girls' schools, but only one per subject. If you submit more than one form for the same subject, only the last one counts. Candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh get no UP reservation and are treated as unreserved. Date of birth is accepted only from the High School certificate. Use the Age Calculator to confirm your age as on 1 July 2026. |
UP TGT Exam Pattern 2026
| Written Exam (Offline, OMR) |
| Section | Questions | Marks |
| General Knowledge | 30 | 90 |
| Concerned Subject | 90 | 270 |
| Total | 120 | 360 |
Each correct answer gets 3 marks and each wrong or multiple-marked answer loses 1 mark. The paper lasts 2 hours and is in Hindi and English, except for language subjects. If two candidates tie, the one with the higher graduation percentage ranks first, then the higher training-qualification percentage, then the older candidate. | What the Negative Marking Means for You |
| Because a right answer is worth +3 and a wrong one costs −1, a guess pays off if you can eliminate even one option out of four. A blind guess between four options has an expected value of +0, so it neither helps nor hurts on average; after removing one wrong option it becomes positive. Our guide on negative marking in Sarkari exams explains when to guess and when to skip. |
UP TGT Salary 2026
A TGT is placed in Pay Level 7 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix, with a pay range of ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400 per month. On top of basic pay, teachers get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other allowances under Uttar Pradesh Government rules, so the monthly gross is higher than the starting basic. School allotment is done by the Director, Secondary Education, UP, Prayagraj, based on the preferences you give.
