BEL Probationary Engineer 2026 at a Glance

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navaratna defence PSU, is hiring 350 Probationary Engineers in E-II Grade – 200 Electronics and 150 Mechanical – under Advertisement No. 17556/HR/All-India/2026. Online forms run from 28 October to 18 November 2026, and the Computer Based Test is tentatively on 22 December 2026. That gives about eight weeks to prepare. Why BEL PE 2026 Is Worth Your Attention

Most PSU engineer jobs today shortlist through GATE scores. BEL PE does not use GATE – it runs its own CBT, so a fresh B.E./B.Tech graduate who missed GATE still has a real shot at a ~₹13 lakh CTC job. The CBT carries 85 of the 100 final marks, so your result is decided mainly by one 120-minute paper. With 350 posts and interview shortlisting at 1:5, about 1,750 candidates will reach the interview stage.

Within the 350 there are 45 PwBD posts (27 Electronics, 18 Mechanical), including 32 backlog vacancies. BEL can increase or decrease seats in each discipline as per actual requirement.

Eligibility: Check These Four Points Before Paying the Fee

Exact branch match. Electronics post: B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc (4-year) Engineering in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Communication or Telecommunication. Mechanical post: Mechanical only. Equivalent disciplines and dual specialisations are not accepted, and your degree certificate must show the same branch you select.
First class for UR/OBC (NCL)/EWS from an AICTE-approved college; pass class is enough for SC/ST/PwBD. AMIE/AMIETE/GIETE with first class also qualify.
Age as on 1 October 2026: 25 years for UR/EWS; +3 OBC (NCL), +5 SC/ST and Ex-Servicemen, +10 PwBD, +13 PwBD-OBC, +15 PwBD-SC/ST. Check with the Age Calculator.
Medical: colour-blind candidates are not suitable for either discipline as per BEL's medical standards.

CGPA Students: Keep the Conversion Certificate Ready
If your university gives a CGPA/SGPA instead of a percentage, BEL uses your own university's conversion formula to decide first class. You must show the conversion certificate at interview – not having it leads to disqualification. Request it from your college now; it can take weeks.

1 mark per question; 1/4 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
Bilingual paper (English and Hindi); the English version is final.
Qualifying marks: 35% for General/OBC/EWS, 30% for SC/ST/PwBD – in the CBT and interview separately.
Final merit: CBT weightage 85 + interview weightage 15.

What the 1/4 Negative Marking Means
With four options, a pure blind guess has an expected value of (1/4 × 1) − (3/4 × 0.25) = +0.0625 marks – slightly positive. Remove one wrong option and it rises to about +0.17. BEL PE Syllabus 2026: What to Study

The official advertisement does not print a topic list. It says the technical section is drawn from core subjects of your own engineering discipline and the aptitude section tests analytical and reasoning ability. Speed matters: 125 questions in 120 minutes is under one minute each. Do aptitude in 20 minutes so technical gets 100.
Technical is 80% of the paper: give it at least four-fifths of your study time.
Choose 5 test centres close to home when applying – they cannot be changed later, and CBT travel is not reimbursed.
Prepare the interview early: 15 marks can swing the final merit. Revise your final-year project and core subjects you list as strengths.
